and why is accurate duplication of chromosomes important?Mitosis is initiated by the activation of a trigger called M-CKD (mitosis cyclin dependent kinase) the M-CDK is kept in check by Anaphase promoting complex or APC. The APC deactivates the M-CDK and forces the cell to telophase. So by checkpoints in the cells the distribution of the genetic code to new cells is monitored.
