Merge difficulty with Excel - Data Link Properties

  • After searching all over the 'net never mind this forum (did that too) I have decided that this is probably more of a Word question than an Excel question.

I see queries about Word merge difficulty, but I don't see anyone with the exacpt problem I am having. In fact nothing I have seen comes close.

This would take me forever to explain so I just used Photoshop to illustrate the problem, believe me it's easier for you that way

I am using MS Office XP. I don't recall ever having to deal with the Data Link Properties dialog after selecting an XLS file to merge data from.

Thanks for having a look. The page is graphics heavy for dialup, about 500kb (half a floppy) of PNG files.

  • In step 5, try changing to Excel instead of "all data sources"

  • I don't get the data link properties when I use an Excel spreadsheet. I hate the new mail merge. I have 97 through 2003, so when I mail merge, I use 2000. :)

  • Hi, thanks for the look-see. I tried this (switch to Excel instead of "All Types") and I get the same result.

Is this whole thing -- the way it all looks -- really how this should look? This seems weird.
