Should i stay D series Or just go LS/Vtec?

  • I have a D16y7 with a Y8 head... engine pulls pretty strong.. but my friend tells me that if i put a JMD tranny with LSD and some CP pistons and eagle rods it will easily stay with a Type R,

    but my other friend tell me that if i put a built ls vtec with a B16 head type R pistons and some eagle rods and a good tranny it would be pretty strong....

    what should i finally do???


  • do not know much about hondas but my bro has a vtec and he thinks its awesome. really efficient and pretty powerful for the kind he has(4cyl)


  • i would stay w/the d-series. i was thinking about goin ls/v but i heard something about them leaking alot cause you have to drill an oil return line in the head. im going d16 w/boost its just an easier and faster build for me.


  • Def go with the LS/VTEC because the LS motor has a strong bottom end && the VTEC head combined with that will result in stronger VTEC pulls and a higher redline.

    stay with the Bseries tranny and use a B18ls motor with the gsr head.. better than the b16 ls/vtec


  • Well it all depends on how much you want to spend. I mean purchasing an Ls motor , buying a vtec head, a JDM type r tranny with a LSd , eagle rods and cp pistons you can be well into 5 g's not counting all the other parts for swapping it in your car and labor put into building up your block, unless you plan on doing it your self. 10 thousand dollars you could be droppin easy when alls said and done, so what you gotta ask yourself, is what really do you want, how much hp do you really want? For half that amount you could buy a turbo setup for the motor you all ready got , get a good tune, new set of sticky tires and have a motor that will leave a stock type r in the dust.   • Go ls/v or cr/v. but build the bottom end. ls and cr do not like high revs, they do not have oil squirters on the bottom and have a weak bottom end...rods. go b16 head to raise comp ratio for more power.
