Stuck on how to move my forum

  • Hello

I am still having major problems with my forum - now, anyone with BT Internet cant seem to get onto the site - and BT are thus blaming the site!!?? Really not sure what to do about this.

Anyway - I want to move my forum to a sub-domain. What's the best way to do this please. I am stumped....

    Thanks

    Wakie :)

  • Also - if I want to split my forum to a new host (keep my website where it is)....how does that work please????

  • Not much we can do without knowing what the error is.

The only consistently reliable method of backing up and restoring a database is with shell access via telnet or ssh. This is because backing up with a PHP script like that in the Admin CP or phpMyAdmin can result in PHP timeout errors and an incomplete backup file.

    Please see the instructions here:

    Backup:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/maintenance_ssh_backup

    Restore:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/docs/html/maintenance_ssh_restore

If you don't have telnet or SSH access, some people have reported success with these scripts:

    MySQLDumper:
    http://www.mysqldumper.de/en/index.php

    MySQLHotxcopy:

  • Please wait at least 12 hours before bumping your posts. :)

    From the forum rules:
    http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showthread.php?t=42918

Please wait a reasonable amount of time before bumping posts. For style changes and general 'how-to' questions this should be 24 hours. For specific troubleshooting issues, use 12 hours as a guideline.

    1. There is nothing we can do about this. That is a BT Internet issue.

    2. You would have to physically move your vB files to the new subdomain directory. Then you need to set the correct forum URL here:

Admin CP -> vBulletin Options -> Site Name / URL / Contact Details -> Forum URL

And in the Members Area under 'License Options':

    http://www.vbulletin.com/members/

    3. Sorry, I have no idea what you mean:

if I want to split my forum to a new host (keep my website where it is)....how does that work please????

  • Can anyone help with this please....

I just want to know how to split the forum from my website? Its probably very simple - just cant get my head around it...thanks

  • I am still having terrible difficulties moving my forum to the new host - they have been very good and online for 8 hours trying to sort this out.

I upgraded my forum to the latest version.
Set up a new database for it at the new host end.
Saved and uploaded my .sql backup file
Sent a version of 3.7.2 over to them as they said they would install a new version

When they come to restore the database though they keep getting an error. I did ask for a copy of this error to show you as they suggested I contact you but they didnt tell me the message

Any ideas as to what is happening - this has taken since yesterday. Rather a long time methinks....

    Any suggestions most welcome

I had started another thread and someone suggested downloading my entire db file and then sending the new host that - so I am doing that at the moment....its taking AGES

    Any ideas guys?
